Happy New Year 2022...and a few links to our sister blog on WordPress

An enemy ship sinks in Cold Waters.  Game elements © 2017 Killerfish Games  Hi, there, Dear Reader. It's Monday, January 10, 2022, and finally, after two months of not posting anything in A Certain Point of View, I am back with a new - if perhaps brief - post.  I am happy to report that I got my Moderna (Spikevax) vaccine. I received my first shot in mid-November, and I got my second one just a few days before Christmas, I have not gone out anywhere since the second Fauci Ouchie, mainly because I don't go out much anyway, and the woman who used to take me places - doesn't do it anymore. I missed seeing Steven Spielberg's West Side Story because of this, and since there's no easy way for me to go to the nearest theater on my own, I'm resigned to having to wait till the film hits the home media market.  Anyway, I've been busy over on WordPress with our sister blog A Certain Point of View, Too. I write at least one post a day there, and currently, I am on a str...

Bloggin' On: Autumn 'House Cleaning' at A Certain Point of View

Image
Photo: Pixabay Hello again and welcome to A Certain Point of View. It's a nice Wednesday afternoon here in my corner of Florida; currently, it's 79℉ (26℃) under sunny skies. We may see the temperatures rise a couple of degrees (81℉/27℃) by late afternoon, but it's definitely not a bad day to go out and get a bit of sun and fresh air. I had hoped to have that long-promised review of Strategic Command WWII: World at War at least half-way done by now, but I haven't played the game in a couple of days and I don't believe I could give you a decent review based on my experiences to date. So if anyone out there is eagerly waiting for my opinion about Strategic Command WWII: World at War (or WAW ), please be patient. I'll write a review as soon as possible. I also don't have anything to offer on the political commentary side of the blog. I used to find inspiration for my political "stuff" at Quora, but I stopped writing there last week and now co...

Coming Soon to a Blog Near You: Upcoming Posts for 'A Certain Point of View'

As the weekend approaches, I'd like to let you know what my plans are regarding content and the future of this blog. In the near future, I'll try to focus my attention on writing reviews and back off from writing about politics, the conservative/liberal divide, and Donald Trump. This will probably result in a slow-down as far as creating blog posts since much of my energies as of late were spent writing about the toxic political scene at home and abroad. Additionally, I closed my Quora account this morning, and because most of my Trump-related content was derived from my answers on that site, I'll be forced to come up with new material that will be exclusive to A Certain Point of View if I have any hopes of getting any income from AdSense and Google. So, Constant Reader, I don...

Coming Soon to A Certain Point of View: Upcoming Reviews

© 1995, 2003 Capitol Records Hi, there, Constant Reader. Normally, you would be reading a product review or a topical essay based on one of my Quora answers, or even a personal reminiscence from the Land of Ago. But today is the 18th day of July (not a happy day for me, since Mom was in her deathbed in our Miami home four years ago and I am still trying to come to terms with that and many other changes in my life), so I think I'll just put together a list of Posts to Come and then take a break from writing for the rest of the day. I'm not sure when, exactly, I will get around to writing and posting any of the following reviews, but this is what is on my to-do list as of today: The Beatles Anthology DVD box set John Adams HBO Miniseries The Family, by Ed Sanders Baseball: A Film by Ken Burns - Inning Eight: A Whole New Game ©2010 PBS Distribution And, of course, I'll probably write about the 50th Anniversary of the Moon landing, the foibles of th...

British historian James Holland's newest book re-examines the Battle of Normandy. © 2019 Atlantic Monthly Press Hi, Dear Readers. I hope you are well and enjoying this first Friday of June 2019. It's almost the weekend where I am in Florida; if you're one of my European readers it's already early evening or even night, depending on how far east you are located, so chances are that some of you are already on weekend mode. I've been dividing my workdays between A Certain Point of View (which I usually reserve several hours' worth of my schedule to post, edit, and share in the mornings) and revising a new screenplay (a comedy this time), so it's not as easy for me to plan anything in advance regarding the blog. I do have a few things in mind for this month's batch of posts, including: New book reviews of works by James Holland, Dave Barry, and Joe Weber A review of Guy Hamilton's Goldfinger Music album review (TBD) My usual "Talking Abo...

Bloggin' On: An Update

Image
Hi, there, Dear Reader! Well, last time we talked, I told you what my plans were for this week regarding "A Certain Point of View." They were, you'll recall, modest in scope; I'm not working on any big literally projects at the moment, so I've pretty much decided to focus on the blog until I can get my shit together as a writer and crank out a story I can be proud of no matter what the format is; ideally I'd like to do a novel, but every time I've started working on one, I either listen to bad advice from well-meaning people or I become intimidated by the prospect. And, yes, I know; novels, short stories, and screenplays don't write themselves. Either I write one, or I should stop calling myself a writer and give up. I'd rather write one - even if it's bad - than admit defeat. But until I can figure out what story I want to tell, I'll stick to the blog and see if I can get it to the 1000-posts mark. Anyway, about those plans I announc...
