Silly Question on Quora: What happens if Trump loses in 2020, then on January 20, 2021, the President-elect and Vice-President-elect both refuse to take the oath of office, and everyone in the line of succession refuses to become the next President?

What happens if Trump loses in 2020, then on January 20, 2021, the President-elect and Vice-President-elect both refuse to take the oath of office, and everyone in the line of succession refuses to become the next President? You’re joking, right? First of all, this is one of the silliest “what if” scenarios about American politics, the Presidency, and how government works I’ve run across in my two years on Quora. Why in the world would the President-elect and his Vice President decide at the last minute to chicken out  at the very last minute  at this late stage in the game? Seriously, dude. Do you  really  believe that whoever ran against Trump in 2020 and defeated him after a bitter and hard-fought political campaign is going to all of a sudden stop the proceedings and say to Chief Justice John Roberts, “Er, excuse me, Your Honor, but my running mate and I have both changed our mind? What will Trump do to combat SNL? Wow. This question is either written by a foreigner who is unfamiliar with U.S. constitutional concepts, particularly those related to the First Amendment of the Constitution, or by a Trump supporter with minimal education. In other words: it’s a  ridiculous  question. Okay, first off, as President of the United States, there is pitifully little that Donald Trump  can  do to “combat”  Saturday Night Live.  Satire, especially political satire, is as old as civilization itself, and under our system of laws, it is protected by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Is Trump a "modern-day Lincoln"? Some of his fans think so. But trust me, he's not. Photo Credit: NBC Nope. Not in the slightest. The only things in common that Donald Trump and Abraham Lincoln are: Party affiliation: Republicans Ethnicity: Caucasian of European origin Last Job Held: President of the United States Gender: Male Other than that, besides the fact that neither Lincoln nor Trump were shoo-ins during their first run to the White House, they are  dissimilar in  most areas.
