'Star Wars' Book News: 'Thrawn: Alliances' is Now in Bookstores and Online Stores in Our Galaxy

On Tuesday, July 24, Random House's science fiction/fantasy imprint Del Rey Books published the U.S. edition of Star Wars: Thrawn: Alliances, the sequel to Zahn's New York Times bestselling novel from last year, Star Wars: Thrawn, which reintroduced a long-time fan favorite character from the former Expanded Universe and placed him in the "official" timeline to coincide with Thrawn's appearance as the main antagonist in Season Three of the Star Wars Rebels animated series.

Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine. On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root—its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. Per the Star Wars canon timeline in the inside pages that precede the novel, Thrawn: Alliances is set a few years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Although a specific in-universe date is not given, it takes place sometime after the events of Solo, A New Dawn (the Star Wars Rebel setup novel), and Zahn's own Thrawn. This places Thrawn: Alliances at a point in the story between the Grand Admiral's on-screen appearances in Seasons Three and Four of Star Wars Rebels.
Random House published Thrawn: Alliances as a 342-page hardcover, an ebook, and an audiobook. As I mentioned earlier, this new and exciting novel by one of the masters of Star Wars fiction was published on July 24 for the North American market, but it's still not out in the UK and other European countries.
