(LFL) Hello, everybody, and welcome once again to another installment of Bloggin' On , my blog-within-a-blog where I step out of my reviewer/political commentator role and just talk about...stuff. It's Sunday, December 8, and there are only 17 (or 16, depending on how you view December 24) shopping days till Christmas. (For what it's worth, I'm good as far as that goes; I finished my Christmas shopping last week.) Right now it's early afternoon in my corner of Florida. I have not ventured outside today, but according to my weather app, the temperature is a mild 79℉ (26℃) under sunny skies. This is the warmest it's been here for a few days, and if I were the outdoorsy sort I would be out walking or, at the very least, sitting o

Q&A's About 'Star Wars': Why do the Kaminoans have a spot in the Republic Senate in Star Wars: The Clone Wars?

In Attack of the Clones, Obi-Wan "discovers" Kamino. Why do the Kaminoans have a spot in the Republic Senate in  Star Wars : The  Clone Wars ? In Attack of the Clones, Obi-Wan "discovers" Kamino. Why do the Kaminoans have a spot in the Republic Senate in  Star Wars : The  Clone Wars ? Although we don’t know   exactly how much time elapses between the end of  Star Wars - Episode II: Attack of the Clones  and the beginning of the  Star Wars: The Clone Wars  series in-universe, we do know that Kamino joins the Galactic Republic a short time after the First Battle of Geonosis (22 years Before the Battle of Yavin). It stands to reason; the Grand Army of the Republic is the official standing army of the Galactic Republic. It’s not, like the Hessians hired by the British to help them quash “the insignificant rebellion” in America in the 18th Century, a mercenary army. Any reasonable leader, whether he or she is a Sith Lord or a true lover of democracy, would wa

'Star Wars' Collectibles & Toys Review: Hasbro 'Star Wars Saga Screen Scene Pack: Jedi High Council 1'

The twelve High Council members are chosen from the ranks of the Jedi Masters and represent a gathering of great minds who have proven themselves and their abilities in the service of peace and justice. – Package blurb, Jedi High Council 1, Star Wars Saga Collection Screen Scene Pack One of the exciting things about the Star Wars prequel trilogy and the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series was learning some of the lore of   how the Jedi Order operated in the waning years of the Old Republic. We saw some of the prominent Jedi Masters and their Padawan apprentices in action, learned about the Jedi Code, and witnessed how the Jedi High Council was outmaneuvered and eventually destroyed by Darth Sidious and his minions. . Book Review: 'Star Wars: Labyrinth of Evil'

Cover art by Steven D. Anderson. (C) 2005 Del Rey Books and Lucasfilm Ltd.  One of the more challenging aspects Star Wars fans face when they read any of the “expanded universe” novels set in the Prequel Era is dealing with the fact that the characters from the films have their destinies set in stone. Most of them, especially those that have followed George Lucas’ space-fantasy saga since the first Episode premiered in 1977, are keenly aware that the Galactic Republic depicted in the Prequel years is being transformed into the Galactic Empire, that the once-unassuming and politically unassailable Palpatine of Naboo is the mysterious Sith Lord known as Darth Sidious, and that the brash and headstrong Anakin Skywalker will turn his back on his fellow Jedi Knights and every good thing he stands for and become the infamous Darth Vader. These broad strokes on this huge celluloid and literary canvas have, of course, been visible for over 40 years, but there are still plenty of littl

(LFL) Star Wars - Saga Collection  Battle Droid - Arena Battle action figure Pros:  Comes already posed, better detailing than 1999  Episode I  Battle Droid. Cons:  Okay, I know Hasbro needs to attract figure collectors, but  blaster effects ? Yuck. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.... Ten years after the defeat of the Trade Federation at Naboo and the election of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, the Galactic Republic is in decline. As the Galactic Congress becomes more unable to assert its authority and political debates become more acrimonious, thousands of star systems have declared their intention to secede from the Republic. Led by the mysterious Count Dooku, the Confederacy of Independent Systems has set up a secret manufacturing facility on the remote planet of Geonosis. Allying itself with the greedy bureaucrats of the Trade Federation, the Commerce Guild, and other

Book Review: Marvel Comics' hardcover reissue of 'Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones'

(C) 2016 by Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm Limited. Cover art by Mike Mayhew With the success of its 2015 hardcover re-mastered reissues of its classic Star Wars Trilogy comic adaptation, Marvel Comics decided to give the Prequel Trilogy a similar re-release the following year. Starting with the May 24 publication of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace , Marvel collected all four issues of Dark Horse Comics’ 2002 adaptation of Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones, the second installment of George Lucas’s “Tragedy of Darth Vader” saga. Written by Henry Gilroy – a screenwriter who has worked on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels – and drawn by Jan Duursema ( Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi ), the four-issue series tells the tale of a corrupt Republic’s gradual transformation into an authoritarian dictatorship, an ambitious Jedi apprentice’s stormy relationship with his Master, and a star-crossed romance that will ultimately affect the fate of the galaxy.

'Star Wars - Episode II: Attack of the Clones' (Limited Edition Steelbook) Blu-ray review

(C) 2015 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment On November 10, 2015, 20th Century Fox re-issued its Blu-rays of all six of George Lucas’s original “Star Wars” films in all-new Limited Edition steelbook packaging. Fox’s marketing move took place less than a month after the studio’s release of its 2011 nine-Blu-ray disc (BD) set, “Star Wars: The Complete Saga” in a new Darth Vader-themed box. It also occurred six weeks before the premiere of Disney/Lucasfilm’s highly anticipated “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The Limited Edition steelbook series, which includes “Star Wars – Episode II: Attack of the Clones,” is not unprecedented in Fox’s long history with the franchise the studio launched in 1977 when it produced Lucas’s “Star Wars” (aka “Star Wars – Episode IV: A New Hope.” For instance, 20th Century Fox Home Video (the forerunner to 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment) released its last VHS edition of the Classic Trilogy” the same year it rolled out the DVD for “Star Wars –

Hasbro's Bail Organa (Alderaan Senator) from Star Wars Saga: Attack of the Clones

v Senator Bail Organa of Alderaan is a trusted advisor in Chancellor Palpatine's inner circle. An impassioned supporter of civic virtue, Bail regrets that to counter the Separatist threat, the Republic must deploy a newly discovered clone army. Although the Republic garners an equivocal victory at the Battle of Geonosis, it is only the first step in a much larger, carefully conceived Clone War. The noble Senator stands in somber observation as thousands of clone troopers, marching in military formation, board countless warships and disperse throughout the galaxy to new battlefronts. - From the Hasbro Star Wars Saga - Bail Organa (Alderaan Senator) action figure's package blurb   Introduced in 2003 as the 33rd action figure of the Saga line,  Bail Organa (Alderaan Senator)  is the very first figure depicting one of the future founders of the Rebel Alliance.   As "action figures" go, this is a good example of how Hasbro lavishes attention to detail on figures whose cha
