Educating Conservatives, Civil Discourse 101: What do liberals want from conservatives?

Image
You see these angry white Southerners who were overwhelmingly Democratic Party members in 1957? They later became Republicans, and their children more than likely grew up to be Trump voters.  What do liberals want from conservatives? I can’t speak for all liberals. That would be pretentious and silly on my part. I can, however, speak for myself. So, this is my wish list regarding what I’d like from people who self-identify as “conservatives.” Cease your blind support of Donald J. Trump and toss him into the dustbin of history Stop treating Americans who are not conservatives as if we were (a) enemies of the United States and (b) aliens who do not deserve the demonym “American” Stop pretending that the Republican Party did not have a “Southern Strategy” in the Sixties to woo disenchanted Southern Democrats who were pissed off at the Democratic Party’s liberal wing’s embrace of the Civil Rights movement Stop repeating the lie that the Ku Klux Klan is not presently dominat

Talkin' About Politics: Do Liberals Hate America?

Image
Do liberals hate America? This question is probably one of the main tenets of modern (post-1950s) U.S.-style conservatism, especially after the dark Vietnam War-Watergate era. Indeed, it’s probably one of the Big Three Myths that conservatives (especially the extremist right wing of the Republican Party and the Tea Party) hold dear. (The other two Big Myths are  What is good for General Motors is good for the country  and  Tax cuts for the wealthy benefit everyone eventually. ) While it is true that conservatism (and it doesn’t matter if it is Democratic Conservatism or Republican conservatism) has always sought to demonize liberals in other eras of history (the Big Business-GOP coalition resisted ex-President Teddy Roosevelt’s progressive ideas in the 1912 election and caused him to try for a second non-consecutive term of his own as a third party candidate…which he lost, big time; 20 years later, the same GOP-Big Business coalition called Franklin D. Roosevelt’s domestic a

A response to 'Do liberals only hate President Donald Trump because he is one of the richest and most successful people in the world?'

Not in the slightest, considering that Donald J. Trump is neither one of the richest persons in the world nor one of the most successful, at least as far as his business expertise is concerned. So if you think that all the discontent with our current Chief Executive is based on mere envy, well…no. It’s not. If anything, I strongly dislike President Trump for various reasons, most of which are based on his behavior and utterances over the past 30 years, including: 1. His penchant for having extramarital affairs, divorcing two of his wives to marry the women he was having the affairs with, and constantly hitting on other women  even though he was married.  The first time he did this, he ditched first wife Ivana for Marla Maples; the second time he did this, he ditched Marla for Melania Knavs. 2. His spiteful campaign to bring back the death penalty to New York State after the “Central Park Jogger” rape case in 1989, as well as his stubborn insistence that the five teenagers wh

Why do lefties like Castro and Che so much? Or, Where I strongly disagree with American liberals

Why do some American liberals admire these two Marxist revolutionaries, anyway? Although I used to consider myself a middle-of-the road voter when I was younger, I suppose some of my more conservative friends would call me a liberal. After all, I support women’s rights, LGBT rights, the Civil Rights movement, and I’m very open-minded about sex. I’m also not very religious   and   strongly support a woman’s right to choose. That having been said, there are some issues/opinions that are espoused by many liberals, especially those on the extreme left of the political spectrum. In no particular order, here are my top peeves: Anti-vaccination movement Free universal college tuition The notion that the military and intelligence communities are inherently “evil” and that the U.S. should  never, ever  resort to military force The 9–11 conspiracy theory that claims the attacks on Manhattan and Washington were carried out by the CIA and the U.S. military The idolization of Communist
