Blu-ray news: Hulu's Stephen King-J.J. Abrams miniseries '11.22.63' BD to be released in August

On August 9, Warner Home Video will release the Blu-ray (BD) and DVD edition of “11.22.63,” Hulu’s eight-part miniseries based on Stephen King’s 2011 best-selling time travel novel “11/22/63.

Co-executive produced by King and J.J. Abrams (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Lost”), the highly-anticipated adaptation of the award-winning book follows the odyssey of Jake Epping (James Franco) as he travels back to the early 1960s to prevent President John F. Kennedy’s assassination on November 22, 1963.

The limited-run series originally aired on Hulu’s subscription service between February 15 and April 4, and consists of eight episodes:

  • ·        The Kill Floor
  • ·        Other Voices, Other Rooms
  • ·        The Eyes of Texas
  • ·        The Truth
  • ·        Happy Birthday, Lee Harvey Oswald
  • ·        Soldier Boy
  • ·        The Day in Question


According to the “11.22.63” product page on Amazon, Warner Home Video will present the eight 44-minute-long episodes in a two-BD set. (The DVD edition also comes with two discs.) In addition, the home video version of “11.22.63” will include “When the Future Fights Back,” a behind-the-scenes featurette about how J.J. Abrams, Stephen King, and Bridget Carpenter adapted the novel for television.

“When the Future Fights Back” will feature interviews with King, Abrams, and Carpenter, and will delve into such topics as:

  •       How King's story was adapted, including the creation of a new character to help tell the story and the incorporation of Easter Eggs from the Stephen King world hidden throughout the series.
  • ·        James Franco in action as director of one of the episodes.
  • ·        The process of bringing the 60's time period to life.


Although Warner Home Video’s suggested retail price for the BD edition of “11.22.63” is $29.98, it is available in Pre-Order at Amazon for $24.99.
